Imagine a 12-year-old who hated school so much she’d often say, “I want to be a sixth-grade dropout.”

That was Jorja.

For Jorja, school was a daily struggle — one that made her feel defeated.

She couldn’t write even a single paragraph, let alone the longer essays that were expected for her grade level.

Her stepmom, Tess, recalls the heartbreak of seeing such a bright little girl lose her confidence. At one point, Tess even tried homeschooling Jorja, only to quickly realize just how hard learning was for her.

Like so many parents, Tess and her family were at their rope’s end. They wanted to help Jorja, but nothing seemed to work.

Then they found Wired2Learn Treatment and Learning Center.

Through the Arrowsmith Program, One-on-One Educational Therapy, and Project-Based Learning, Jorja began to build her skills — and her confidence. With intensive practice, she started strengthening the weak areas of her brain that caused her to struggle, and for the first time, she felt supported and capable.

Tess shares,  “It’s still hard to believe it’s been six years since we started this awesome educational program at Wired2Learn. At the time, we were at our rope’s end, trying desperately to get Jorja through sixth grade. Through Alyssa’s assurance that W2L was the perfect place for her, we set off on this new journey and are thrilled with her growth in every area. Her growth in the Arrowsmith Program shows in everything she does now — from writing a paper to putting together a whole presentation.”

Tess recalls moments that marked Jorja’s transformation: when Jorja started writing papers and giving presentations with confidence and pride, how she was motivated to learn things like engineering and physics through hands-on projects like building a catapult in Project-Based Learning, and the priceless emotional support from her teachers and therapists, who helped her navigate challenges with patience and encouragement.

Today, Jorja is a high school senior who is dual-enrolled at the local community college.

As an 11th grader, she successfully tested into college English. She’s taken on leadership roles, and her confidence is undeniable.

Jorja no longer sees learning as impossible; she knows she can do anything she puts her mind to.

Her plan?  To study psychology and help other struggling students get the support they need — just like she did.

Jorja’s journey is a testament to what’s possible when a child receives the right tools and encouragement.

If you see glimpses of Jorja’s story in your own child’s struggles, know that there’s hope. With the right support, your child can thrive, too.

Every child deserves to confidently pursue their dreams
